Out of the 50+ countries I’ve been lucky enough to visit, these are my top 5 picks for a romantic honeymoon. It was hard to pick a general 5, but I made these choices based on different personalities and interests.
1. For the foodie couple. ITALY.
Lots of people travel to Italy, and for good reason. I’ve been to Lake Como a couple times to photograph weddings, and it is hands down one of the most romantic places on earth. Take a road trip after through Tuscany, Florence, the Amalfi Coast, and Rome. Eat pasta and gelato until you both gain 20 pounds in one of the most romantic places on earth. I went with my assistant shooter last time and I won’t lie, I wanted to hold her hand the entire time.
2. For the luxurious couple. BORA BORA.
If you want to do nothing but be surrounded by turquoise water, this is the place to be. Home to the original 5 star bungalow resorts, they call it the Rolex of the South Pacific. Stay in an over water bungalow, swim with sharks and sting rays, eat tropical fruit all day.
3. For the adventurous couple. ICELAND.
If you’re an outdoorsy couple, Iceland is the perfect place to do a romantic camping roadtrip. I went by myself for work, but I really wished my boyfriend could have come with me. The scenery and color palette of the country will drive you bonkers. Beauty around every corner.
4. For the fun couple. THAILAND.
Thailand is my favorite country in Southeast Asia. The people are warm, friendly, funny, and there is so much to do! Elephants, tigers, turquoise water, street food, crazy nightlife. Endless entertainment. Here are photos from a wedding I photographed there.
5. For the simple laid back couple. BIG SUR, CA.
I think the drive up the California Coast is one of the most beautiful in the world. Big Sur in particular is my favorite stop along the way. Rent a cabin, put on a fire, and cuddle up with some wine. I do the drive quite often because my folks live in the Bay Area. I feel lucky to live so near.
