After college I decided to move to NYC. I remember descending into the city looking down at the twinkling lights. It was like the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland but better. This was real.
Something powerful happens when you realize you get to make choices.
You get to be responsible for YOU. You can eat whatever you want (pancakes for dinner? don’t mind if I do!), live wherever you want (hello NYC), and do whatever makes you happy (I am going to be a photographer – YES!).
I was staring at my dog yesterday and she reminded me how awesome it is to have these choices. I adopted her 7 years ago. I was going through a transition and thought to myself – I could get a dog. Whoa, wait a minute. I COULD GET A DOG. We were allowed to have every other kind of animal growing up including rats (they were named Freckles & Minnie), but not dogs. My mom thought they were too high maintenance.
I get to have a dog and she’s all . . . mine. Being an adult is cool.
