How to Stay Creative in Your Business (And More Business-y In Your Creativity)

Where do you lay on the “art to business” spectrum?

I’d say that I’m pretty close to the middle, with a little lean toward the artsy side.

Lately I’ve been working on business aspects of my company to the point where my artist side lashed out last night. The artsy side of me is awfully rebellious…

I was watching old episodes of “How I Met Your Mother” and found myself getting the urge to want to stamp, A LOT.  I went into the kitchen to grab old grocery bags, cut them up to make sheets of paper, and started stamping.

What was I making?  I didn’t know in the beginning but after a while I got the funny idea that this is a great way to create some custom wrapping paper!

Whatever industry you are in, it is important to work both sides of the brain.

Many times, business/science people will say “I’m just not creative.” That is IMPOSSIBLE!

Humans are creative by nature.  Our brains allow us to create. Sometimes ideas come to you, other times you just have to start doing something as simple as doodling. I think doing creative things makes you a happier person. It’s why kids are so happy.

If you are artsy and tend to have trouble with business, start doing daily activities that create structure and routine. This will keep you grounded and consistent. You can still do your craft, but execute it in an organized manner when necessary. Also, I have found that cleaning my desk immensely helps.  🙂
